What is the role of the Department of Biology, University of Athens in the construction and checkout of the protection cases?
Mr. Lucas C. Margaritis , Professor of Biology and Radiobiology at the Department of Biology, University of Athens, has developed patents for special protection cases. The construction of the protection cases are made based on these patents. In cooperation with the Department of Biology 5% of all produced lots are checked and for this purpose the research laboratory of Professor Lucas Margaritis is rewarded.
What led to the production of the specialized radiation protection cases;
The whole idea of protection from radiation of wireless mobile devices revealed through research carried out several years in the Department of Biology, University of Athens, by Professor Lucas Margaritis and his research team.
Where the research is done for the specific cases and the effects of mobile radiation and other wireless devices?
The research is done in the Department of Biology, University of Athens, by Professor Lucas Margaritis and his research team. He is a Professor of Biology and radiobiology. He is also the Director of the Department of Cell Biology and Biophysics.
How much mobile radiation is harmful to humans?
It is not clear yet. It is however observed that flies that are exposed to radiation from a mobile phone for more than 15 seconds lead to non-reversible consequences. In humans who have bigger body mass it is not the same time limit but all indications are that there should be such a limit, close to precedent and in some time will be adopted.
Where the special protection bags are made?
The patented cases of radiation protection are now manufactured in the European Union with very specific construction requirements on the application of radio-impenetrable materials which are contained but also in the whole construction. All cases have a window showing the internal radio-proof material that has been used, or that material appears clearly on one side.
What material is the outer surface of cases?
The outer surface of the cases is from various materials such as leatherette, recycled leather (models: 101, 102, 201, 301) but also from various other materials such as genuine leather, etc. The skin is composed of recycled leather chips and glue.
All patented special protection cases from mobile radiation have a certificate from the University of Athens or other recognized scientific body, and of course have instructions for use.
What determines the radiation emitted from my device ?
The radiation emitted from mobile or wireless phone depends on various factors such as how close or far is the antenna base (near = less radiation emitted from the device, far = more radiation emitted from the device), how many obstacles has the device to communicate with the antenna base (without visual contact and with no obstacles = very little or less radiation emitted from the device, many obstacles without sight = great or greater radiation emitted from the device), if we are talking or if the device is in standby mode (talking = more radiation emitted from the device, shouting = much higher radiation emitted from the device, waiting = usually very low radiation emitted from the device - if we have strong signal), if we are writing or sending sms / mms (writing = very little radiation emitted from the device, sending = much higher radiation emitted from the device).
In general:
- The intensity of radiation emitted by a cell phone varies during speech time but also varies in the stages of its operation (standby, talk, send sms / mms etc)
- of course it is good to have a mobile phone antenna / base near because then we are radiated from the antenna itself.
- It is always good to maintain safe distance from all the devices that emit radiation such as mobile phones, cordless phones, baby monitoring devices, wireless routers computer networks (wifi) etc.
How that the radiation is emitted from mobile and other devices?
The radiation of a) wireless devices is always from the antenna (integrated or external), b) other electrical devices are leaking from points that a powerful stream is flowing (e.g. the eyes or the electric furnace, motors in hair dryer) and c) from other devices are semi insulated (e.g. older microwave ovens) from whichever side is poorly insulated. The radiation emitted is ball or balloon shaped. That is why it is important to constrain the surfaces that emit radiation. Our aim is to minimize the intensity of the radiation emitted by all devices.
What radiation emitted by wireless devices?
This is radiation invisible to the human eye. It is called non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation. Such radiation emitted by mobile phones, cordless phones, wireless baby monitoring devices, wireless(wifi) router/modem/gateways, wireless(wifi) media player/media server, etc.
Where there is radiation of wireless devices in which I live?
Each wireless device emits radiation in order to function and communicate with others. Some examples:
- Antenna base with mobile phone
- wireless phone base station to the wireless phone
- Baby monitoring device base to the wireless portion
- Wireless modem/router/gateway to the corresponding pc or a mobile phone connected to the wireless modem/router/gateway to access the internet
- wireless media player device with a corresponding media server
- Radiation from mobile phone to Bluetooth wireless headset
How does the radiation emitted from my mobile phone changes?
The intensity of non-ionizing electro-magnetic radiation emitted by a mobile phone is changing, depending on the operation and the operating conditions, namely:
Generally when a phone is far from the corresponding base station or mobile phone antenna is forced to emit more radiation to maintain communication with the respective base station or with the corresponding mobile phone antenna. The same applies when there are natural barriers to communication in general (e.g. talking through a basement in the elevator, etc.). Some examples:
- When the phone is turned off (no current) does not emit radiation.
- When the phone is on hold, able to call or to be called there is too little radiation
- At a time when we call or somebody is calling call us there is a lot of radiation emitted.
- While listening (without talking) there is less radiation emitted than when we talk
- the louder we speak, more radiation is emitted by our device
- at a time when the mobile device is connected to internet quite high-intensity radiation is emitted.
- While writing sms radiation is not transmitted
- When sending or receiving sms high radiation is emitted.
- When we see a video or hear a song or ringtone already in the mobile memory no radiation is transmitted.
- When we download with wireless connection video or a song or ringtone, there is enough radiation emitted.
General: When the device emits wireless signals to communicate (or they call us or we talk or we send sms) enough radiation is emitted from which we wish to protect ourselves.
Which other devices emit radiation?
Electromagnetic and magnetic radiation is emitted from other ordinary devices. The apparatus of the most intense emission of radiation are microwave ovens, hairdryers and the old cathode ray tube televisions with. The new style television (LCD, Plasma) does not emit radiation.
What are other cases with normal contamination from radiation?
The definition of Radiation contamination is the phenomenon where humans are exposed to various fields of radiation, and when this is above certain limits. For example, there are houses that are very close distance a) to mobile antenna bases, b) high voltage cables or c) within an area (e.g. a small living room) operate various types of wireless broadcast sources (e.g. a wireless phone, wireless network). There are still cases where the person is in close proximity to electrical devices that produce very extreme radiation fields (e.g. less than ½ to 1 meter from a microwave oven while is working).
What is the safety distance from devices that emit radiation?
According to scientific studies in Greece and around the world, we must always keep safe distance from electrical devices that produce radiation while working. That distance from what we know is different depending on the intensity of current and the working principle of the device. For example, is now known that is not allowed for a pregnant mother at a distance of less than one meter from a microwave oven in operation.
What radiation is emitted by the wireless headset Bluetooth?
Bluetooth headsets emit much less radiation from mobile and wireless phones. The latest studies of the research team of Professor Loukas Margaritis have shown that the Bluetooth without cable, because of the small but persistent radiation produced, in order to be constantly in contact with the mobile phone is quite dangerous. The radiation of Bluetooth headset is a few hundred times less than that of mobile and cordless phones.
Is it safe to use a wireless headset Bluetooth;
It is safe if you use a model that has cable for the headset. So even the little radiation of a Bluetooth headset is not taking it in the brain, which is the most sensitive human organ. The risk of the Bluetooth headset comes from the continuous emission of radiation in order to keep contact with the mobile phone. The latest studies of the research team of Professor Loukas Margaritis have shown that the Bluetooth without cable, because of the small but persistent radiation produced in order to be constantly in contact with the mobile phone is quite dangerous. Therefore do not hold the Bluetooth headset attached to us if we do not need it, so we have less exposure to radiation.
What can I do to protect against radiation exposed the space to live or retire?
The first thing you can do in the space you live and work is to keep distance from the devices that you knowingly emit radiation.
What products are used for insulating rooms from radiation?
In cases where there is a problem with high levels of emitted radiation a room or an apartment can be insulated. There are various ways such as:
- During construction you can place between bricks and mortar special radiation-proof insulating fabric. Plaster and then paint properly.
- In already constructed flats / houses: You can paint with special radio-paint whole surfaces such as walls and ceilings.

What other products exist to protect humans from radiation?
There are products that insulate from electromagnetic radiation and you will soon find them in our e-shop. There is a vest from a special radiation-proof material that protects people who have a pacemaker, from radiation of wireless and mobile phones. The same applies to radiation from wireless networks. Such a vest would not allow the pacemaker be affected by radiation.
Are all radiation-insulating materials the same?
No. Each material has specific properties insulate specific frequencies of electromagnetic radiation. Some materials insulate more and some less.
Where I will find instruments to measure mobile radiation?
Soon we will sell devices that measure radiation from wireless and wired devices.
Are all these measurement instruments measure the same?
No. Other instruments measure radiation of electrical appliances; other wireless devices and other are simpler measurement devices. They express the measurements in digital or analog scale or they even reflect the impact sound (high/low ...). Other instruments have great sensitivity and other low. Still, other instruments count greater range and other lesser range of radiation.
In what units radiation from mobile/wireless phones is measured?
The non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation of wireless devices is measured in Volt/meter (V/m).
What are the units of measurement of radiation from other devices?
The wired devices (e.g. microwave, electric oven, television, video, mixer, etc.) emit magnetic radiation from the electrical line. The radiation is measured in the scale of Gauss in mill gauss.
What is the safety threshold for use of wireless devices?
The safety limits are not uniform in different states or cities in the same state. There are no binding or mandatory limits on the emission of radiation within the safety limits for humans. Many authorities issue desired but not binding limits for emission of radiation. It is fact that even these limits have very large differences from country to country and from city to city. For example, radiation emission limits for Greece was 33.00 V/m, recently came down to 22.00 V/m while the corresponding limits in Paris and Salzburg are only 0.20 V/m. The limit of 0.20 V/m is what many scientists around the world tend to accept as a safety net for humans. Subsequent studies may show other limits.
Characteristics of our radiation protection products:
All of our products (special radiation protection cases) are effective over 90% on average for protection against radiation. Specifically in GSM-900: protective cases Models No.101 & 102 protect against non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation at 93.5% on average, Model No. 201 at 97.5% on average and Model No. 301 at 90% on average. On GSM-1800: protective cases Models No.101 & 102 protect against non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation at 87.5% on average, Model No. 201 at 91.5% on average and Model No. 301 at 87% on average. On the non protective side, it weakens the intensity of radiation emitted from the antenna of mobile phones at a rate of 40% on average.
What products do not protect against radiation?
All products that advertise that protect against radiation but do not include either the protection area (e.g. body), or device (e.g. mobile) we want to isolate from us. Such products are usually stickers placed on the mobile speaker(this only protects the ear canal but clearly not the head or any other area of the body mounted device), medallion that diverts radiation (to wear or place in our area), etc.
What instruments are used to measure radiation of wireless devices?
The main devices used to measure radiation with our special protection case are:
a) Smart FieldMeter EMC Test Design, LLC, Newton MA, USA,
b) ACECO, SC-1 Plus RF Counter, USA.
What is the SAR of mobile phones?
The SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) is a measurement that indicates the permeability of mobile radiation appliances as to the rate of absorption of radiation per kilogram of body mass. Unit of measurement is Watts per kilogram. Generally, shows that device with larger SAR crosses with greater pace and intensity electro-magnetic field in our body. Please note that SAR measurements given by mobile phones manufacturers are at a distance of 5 cm from the device, which nobody is doing when speaking with the mobile. It is clear that the closer the body is the phone, the greater the SAP indication.
How is indicative is the mobile SAR?
The SAR is indicative in ideal conditions and operation which is not happening in our daily lives. Even a mobile with low SAR may emit too loud if found in situations in which the communication with the antenna base is blocked and is trying to communicate by sending maximum potential.
Where do wireless devices emit radiation?
Wireless/mobile phones contain new-generation broadcasting antenna in the shell. The point where antenna is positioned is not specific (e.g. other devices have the antenna on the back; others down on the back while others high on front). Older models of wireless/mobile phones that have antenna outside of the device and radiation is emitted from there.
What phone should I buy; with what SAR?
It does not matter what phone you choose. You can choose any phone you like. We should care to radiate neither yourself nor those around you, at any place (home, office, car, etc.). One way to protect yourself, is to use the protective cases we sell. Another way is to always keep away from these devices.
